Mix-Ability - Credit Card technique

Birgit has a great challenge this week over at the Mix-Ability forum - this week we are using a credit card, gift card, paint spatula, or other stiff plastic tool to move acrylic paint around.

I started with a dark grey Artist Trading Card from Inchie Arts, added a few dabs of acrylic paint then pulled them around with the edge of a plastic card to create a really cool background for my focal piece.

My next step was to add a little texture using drywall tape as a mask. I stippled white acrylic paint through the holes.
I added just a little more texture using a large Cover-a-Card stamp from Impression Obsession - this is one of the grunge backgrounds called CAC Scratches. I only wanted the pattern in one corner, so instead of mounting the stamp, I held it in my hands, inked just one area, and curved the stamp so that only that area would print.
Following that step, I stamped Bike Silhouette with Versafine ink, then splattered some watered-down white acrylic paint over the panel. Love these little ATC pieces, and their durability under such a variety of techniques and media.

Here's my completed project... the sentiment can be found HERE.

...a few details...

If you try this background technique, let me know - I'd love to see your results!  Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!

Love your tutorial!!! I feel like I am learning something every week from you! I am having an AHA! Moment right now. I have the photo up where you are sprinkling your paint from a brush. It seems like a simple thing but I keep wondering how people do it because my splatters never look quite right or get ALL over the place! Can't wait to try the tapping method! I have been stippling drywall tape all week!!! Thanks for writing me back the other day! Gorgeous card!

Another wonderful tutorial and artwork. I love how this turned out. The painters tape really adds a nice touch. I see you using it a lot these days.
