Tiffany's challenge this week in the Mix-Ability forum is to create a mixed media sandy shore. We can use any technique, so I went with watercolor. I saw this cute little pocket set when I was out the other day, and went back to pick it up because it just stayed in my head!
They're not super high quality paints, but it's fun to work with a different format, and if I end up not loving the pans, I can pop them out and fill in the spaces with tube paints.
The image I painted is from Unity Stamps, by artist Phyllis Harris. I love her little scenes, and this one is so melancholy. The sunset made the light direction fun to play with too, which is something I don't always take time to do.
I used Inktense Blocks for some texture in the sand - if you're familiar with the Sanded Pencil Background technique I shared a couple of weeks ago, the concept is the same, but so much easier to do with the blocks than a pencil point. The sentiment is from a set I designed for Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps.
