It's my turn to host the Mix-Ability challenge this week, and I've made it an easy one - as long as you use 2 or more types of art media on your project, anything goes! I'd love to encourage participants to create a mixed media project to send along to MD Anderson for our Hope You Can Cling To card drive, but of course that's entirely up to you.
I struggle with one-layer cards, so I wanted to combine a couple of challenges and ideas at once. This card fits Beate's HYCCT challenge to create a one-layer WOW card. I used Polychromos Pencils as well as an acrylic marker, so it's mixed media too. The stamps are from a recent Flourishes release called Picking Wildflowers.
Pencil coloring on an already-colored surface is fun and has its own unique challenges - the surface remains the medium tone in your shading, and you just add in deeper shades and highlights. For the lower area of the card, I used the side of my pencil to shade, then brushed OMS over the area to soften the strokes.
The white acrylic marker I used is found HERE - I have really gotten fed up with white gel pens that skip or clog, and I LOVE this fine tip marker. The white is incredibly vibrant, and the design of this nib is different - it's plastic, and if it plugs up, you can wash it with a little soap and water - good as new!
So much going on at Splitcoast - hope you'll join us!
